One of my favorite statements by Mary Baker Eddy (I have many favorites, but this is the one I’m enjoying today) is “It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle, which produces apparent discord, and the right understanding of Him restores harmony.” It is found in her book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (page 390). Those 21 words explain the significance of spiritual healing: get to know God better and the problem – any problem – dissolves.
Does that seem counterintuitive? If your normal tendency in problem-solving is to focus on the problem, then yes – this goes against the grain. But this kind of problem-solving focuses solely on the solution: God. What happens is this: your thought becomes so occupied with exploring divine infinity and goodness, that the issue becomes less prominent in consciousness. And as it begins to dissolve in thought it begins to dissolve in your life. It’s a very straight forward corollary.
Try it. Spend just a few moments pondering God’s omnipotence or His lovingkindness. See if you can learn just one new thing about Deity and hold thought to its enduring character. Even after just a very short while, you will feel better and be more peaceful. Results really are that quick!
Imagine how you’d feel if you spent more time contemplating Spirit, God, than in contemplation of your material circumstances. It’s worth finding out, don’t you think?
